kinda realized the problem of 'code is law' - the old days of politics when most people were simply illiterate.

there's also the engine analogy - most people don't understand car engines but they still want to buy a car, so we jail those who sell unsafe cars rather than teaching everyone the pitfalls of mechanics.

emmmm... Anything interesting for further reading?

@Main_Tomato wait did the fediverse just decide to block all of gab because they're gab?

I didn't know we were such hyprocrites when it came to free speech

@jordan31@fosstodon.org @PeterCxy it's about developing the foundation before exposing children to more exciting (or gross) stuff. Say, when they can recognise the reality of civilization, the harm of showing some PG stuff becomes acceptable. It's not like no child can handle things beyond their age, and it's probably not THAT a big deal if a prematured one sees something that one's peers can't handle. the point is getting all of them ready, rather than a mere limit

Devil's Advocate: We need Google (and others, excluding Oracle) to continue being a powerful megacrop until it successfully lobbies the U.S. Government to allow free reimplementation of APIs. Even Google has lost the Oracle lawsuit, but the only reason that projects like Wine is still being able to survive is due to the power of these corporations. If APIs cannot be reimplemented freely, the entire foundation of FOSS may be outlawed in the future. Change me mind.
