一兩年前狀態很糟的時候，曾用slowly這個app向陌生的異國筆友投遞了一封信。印象中，我沒寫什麼太具體的事情——儘管那時狀態確實很糟，卻也說不清我到底為了什麼而痛苦。

遠方的筆友回信，其中一句話是，「吃點冰淇淋」。我反覆讀了幾次，而後真的起身，在難眠的冬夜裡走出家門，到附近24小時營業的超市裡買了一桶冰淇淋。然後回到家中，披著毯子吃冰。

那晚我睡得很好。此後我幾次點開那封信，直到感受到那份魔力逐漸消退。我刪去了app。

在某些心裡朦朧起霧的時刻，我看不清楚任何人，也沒有誰看得見我。而陌生人一句無心的話竟能穿透濃霧，被我接收、在我身上發揮作用，那是魔法。
回想起曾有過那樣的瞬間，我感覺被深深眷顧。

In todays world where systemd exists, I'll go as far as making the claim that exactly 0 Linux program should handle daemonization on their own. Even without systemd, what we have today as init systems / service managers are a billion times more powerful than 20 years ago. Just don't daemonize. Period.

But the beauty of an open federated protocol is that one can always migrate away with less resistance than, say, migrating from Twitter to Fedi, even if said instance actively prevent users from doing so. As long as they still speak the ActivityPub protocol, they have to be somewhat compatible with other servers, and as long as more than one entity runs the super nodes, they still have to retain some degree of federation. Even email has not evolved into a state where self-hosting is completely impossible (save for delivery to Outlook -- that's just a dead cause now)
